Fmp Proposal
Section 1: Context
For my FMP I would like to create a portfolio of Industry research including the Neo soul scene, record labels, promoters,and local radio stations, then I will move onto the whole topic of vocals including vocal health, techniques, vocal coaching and artists research that Inspires my songwriting artistry.
Document my experiences and collaborations with musicians and producers that I plan to work with during the next few months, really working on my original material experimenting with production and sounds.
I will also have a live session with a few of my favourite musicians to get a feel of how my songs would sound live and create a master plan for the near future.
Songwriting is a massive passion of mine so I am going to do some research on poetry analysis and take the time to analyse the lyrics of my biggest songwriting inspirations; look into songwriting master classes, and try some different songwriting techniques to see what works best for me.
Backing Vocals is also something I have been inspired after doing BV’s for a reggae artist at a festival called Valley Fest in bristol 2 years ago which was an incredible experience and would really like to look into it researching the London backing vocalist scene and also looking into the gospel choirs.
For work experience my keys player and I plan to do function as a duet in local restaurants we have already had a restaurant interested in us so we will start to put together a portfolio of songs to learn and master.
We have also put a function jazz band together for events such as private parties/weddings and we have filmed a promo video to put on social media at the moment we are debating on a name for our band but I will document our progress and development.
Section 2: Research
I have so many topics to my Fmp. Research will be done using websites, social media, articles and books. I will also network and talk to people in the industry I know. Youtube will be a massive platform for research because I will watch some master classes on songwriting, artist interviews and build a collection of reference tracks for production inspiration for original music.
Section 3: Problem solving
An issue that might occur is things coming up last with the musicians and producers i plan to meet with in the up and coming months due to double booking, last minute calls for other work or miss communion issues; so the best way of resolving this would be to really keep on top of our calendars and if something does come up, reschedule for as soon as possible to keep on top of the plan made beforehand. Another problem that with my recording sessions is vocal fatigue or sore throat, vocal health is vital especially when you are having a period of time where you are singing loads so warming up, vocal rest, and drinking plenty of water and warm honey and lemon water will soothe the vocal cords.

I will be using studios and rehearsal spaces during the course of the next few months and for my songwriting and original material that I will be using logic pro for production with the producer that i'm working with, I will be recording my vocals demos using the shure BETA 58A microphone. For meeting and rehearsing with my function band and keys player we have made a group chat on facebook which we use to communicate on and also a shared calendar which we can put rehearsal and gig dates on; I feel that we are quite professional when it comes to organisation.
Section 6: Evaluation and reflection
I will be keeping a weekly diary documenting my progress throughout the project which will include pictures, videos, lyrical ideas and little demos of music that I may be working on I will also talking about my studio sessions/rehearsals in which i will evaluate them with WWW and EBI as not all sessions can run perfectly. Some weeks I Will evaluate making vlogs talking about what microphone I am using and talking about the production and our debates about what sounds/instruments should go where also will talk about my lyricall ideas and how I feel the music should replicate the emotion of the lyrics ect..
Section 7: Presentation
I will present my work using wix as I have been using it for a year and feel most comfortable with this website. The website is very flexible and easy to use. You can experiment with different ways of presenting your work so it's more personalised, which is visibly quite appealing, you can also choose from many different layouts to suit your way of working. The other great thing about wix is you can upload your videos quite fast, as I found it was a very slow process with other websites tried in the past. I am hoping my website will be of use to me after I have left college.
