Development in year 1:

Joining Northbrook half way through the year was like a breath of fresh air, I felt that I was at a low point as a singer/songwriter and northbrook picked me off my feet and made me eager to learn and determined to do well again. Before Northbrook I hadn’t finished or structured an original song but I knew was inspired by great songwriters and poets, so I decided to pick up the pen and paper in my songwriting classes and scribble down all of these lyrical ideas that had been stuck in my head for so long, and I really believe that joining northbrook made me see clear of them. My theory classes helped me with chord progressions by looking at the circle of 5th, relative minors, the analysis of music, the list goes on. My vocal tuition classes developed my technique, vocal health, plus confidence/stage presence and suddenly I found myself out gigging again, this time with original material as well as covers with my incredible keys player and bassist Finn who now has become my songwriting partner as we have developed this connection and work really well together, we performed my original song ‘Breathe’ at the concorde gig last June.

Goals and Targets for This Year:

This year I would like to develop my songwriting skills even more by taking my projects and ideas into logic and developing more of that producer roll and adding recording and adding production to my songs and experimenting with different sounds and genres. I am also determined to learn how to use ableton as i know it is great for live sets and would love to add more of an electronic sound to my sets.

I will be working on my poetry this year and would like to turn one of my poems into a song. I would also like to incorporate art into my study and research by taking a painting or photography and writing a song inspired by it.

I would also like to develop my studio skills and knowledge so I can have an understanding of what's going on, I would love to be able to use the mixing desk if needs be, and also record other musicians, I also would like to collaborate and songwrite with producers and musicians working towards my FMP.

This year I would like to develop my theory as I feel that it is essential and would take my songwriting to the next level. As I don't play an instrument properly I feel that understanding theory to a standard is important for a vocalist when working in bands.

This year I would like to structure my time and make sure im on top of all my work as last year that was a problem of mine.

By the end of the year I would like to have a finished EP inspired by my research that I will have completed and presented on my wix website. I would also have added production to my already written songs and also the new songs that will have been written. I would also like to experiment with making instrumentals and interludes playing with different vocal effects and sounds.
